Questions or concerns about EV ownership? Find answers to common electric vehicle questions.

Electric vehicles and equipment are quiet, clean and efficient and offer drivers the opportunity to save money on fuel and maintenance costs, reduce their environmental impact and contribute to the energy independence of the US by using a domestically produced source of energy. Learn more.

While the upfront cost for an electric vehicle may be higher than a traditional vehicle, the ongoing fuel and maintenance costs should be much less. EV owners should expect to see an increase in their electricity usage, however this is much less than the price of gasoline or diesel fuel — approximately equivalent to paying $1.07 per gallon for gasoline.

Not at this time. AES Ohio will continue to explore investments in electric vehicle infrastructure and other rate structures that may benefit electric vehicle owners. Any changes are subject to review and approval by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).

Most vehicles can charge on a standard 120-volt outlet, so you may be able to use an existing outlet. Many customers choose to have a 240-volt Level 2 charging station for faster charging. If you choose to do this, please call our Construction Control Center at 800-253-5801 at least two weeks in advance so we can ensure the electric equipment delivering energy to your home can support this.

Consult a licensed electrician for the installation of a Level 2 charger and wiring. Level 2 charging station outlets are similar to those of a clothes dryer.

The best time to charge your car is when everyone else is using less energy. Overnight is recommended for charging your vehicle. You should especially avoid charging your car on hot, humid summer afternoons and evenings when fans and air conditioners are running continuously.

AES Ohio has partnered with a third-party provider, CLEAResult, to provide this service to our customers.
